Denizli Merkezefendi Traditional Medicine Festival Begins

12th Traditional Medicine Festival, organized in cooperation with Denizli and Zeytinburnu Municipalities and Pamukkale University begins.
Herbal products are exhibited by relevant public bodies, organizations and various companies at the garden of Çatalçeşme Theatre Room. Various meetings were organized in the Sarımahmutlu village of Denizli's Buldan County, where Merkezefendi was born. 9 experts from Turkey and abroad will participate in the festval, which will be held from May 16 to 20. Osman Zolan Mayor of Denizli Municipality, Murat Aydın Mayor of Zeytinburnu Municipality, Abdullah Acar Assistant Governor and many citizens and guests took part in the meeting at Çatalçeşme Theatre Room. Abdullah Acar thanked Mayors of Denizli and Zeytinburnu Municipalities and Rector of Pamukkale University for hosting the Festival.
Mayor Zolan stated that we did not pay attention to our values. I want to thank the former Mayor for the preservation of our own values. Merkezefendi is one of our important values.We are begining the Traditional Medicine Festival in Denizli and will continue in Zeytinburnu.
Murat Aydın emphasized that 'Merkezefendi' is the person, who brings together Zeytinburnu with Denizli. We discovered the values of traditional medicine and decided to hold the 12th Festival of Medicine. Medical schools also must be related to this issue. A university should create awareness in this sence and Pamukkale University can achieve it.
Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Bağcı stated that he is happy to participate in Medicine Festival. We opened Medical Aromatic Plants Department in Tavas Vocational School and will accept students this year.
I think that studies in this area will contribute to Turkish and World Science. After the speeches, members of protocol visited stands which were opened at Çatalçeşme Theatre Room. Denizli Municipality distributed mesir paste to all members of protocol and citizens. Festival with various activities will continue till 26 May in Denizli and will take place in Zeytinburnu until May 29.

May 17, 2011 Tuesday - Çatalçeşme Theatre Room
10.30 am - Prof. Dr. Badiaa LYOUSSI - The famous traditional physicians in Maghreb countries; Prof. Dr. Gülendam TÜMEN - General survey of the herbal therapy.
2.30 pm - Prof. Dr. Athar ATA - Opportunities for producing drugs from medicinal plants used by indigenous people in Canada; Assoc. Dr. Ali ÇELİK - Denizli's plant richness and oppurtunities, offered to folk medicine; Dr. Mustafa YAŞAR - The clinical usage of herbal therapies and mechanism of action.
8.30 pm Concert: Denizli Municipal Concervatory's Turkish Folk Music Choir Concert. Venue: Municipal Art Center.

2.30 pm Prof. Dr. Khan Bahadur MARWAT - Medicinal Plants of spring weeds; Assoc. Dr. Kudret GEZER - Medical Mushrooms.
8.30 pm Concert: Denizli Municipal Concervatory Turkish Folk Music Solo Concert. Venue: Ziya Tikıroğlu Open-Air Theatre.

May 20, 2011 Friday - Çatalçeşme Theatre Room
10.30 Şerif KUTLUDAĞ - View to Merkezefendi's conception on education; Nurettın AKSAKAL The importance of Merkezefendi and medicinal spring in Merkezefendi's Suffering Room (Çilehane).
NOTE: During Merkezefendi Festival, herbalists will open the stands and will treat people with herbal teas and sherbet at the garden of Çatalçeşme Theatre Room. Zeytinburnu Municipality will open promotional stand. Also step measurement, measurement of blood sugar, measurements of body fat and muscle ration will be made by Health Department of Denizli Municipality during the Medicine Days.
