Denizli Metropolitan Municipality City Council Poets Society commemorated the 79th anniversary of our national poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy passing away. Mehmet Akif Ersoy was a model personality with his way of life and struggle. He was a man of ideas and literature.

Denizli Metropolitan Municipality City Council Poets Society commemorated the 79th anniversary of our national poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy passing away. Denizli Deputy Governor Ali Şanlıer, Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Mustafa Gökoğlan, the Head of Metropolitan Municipality Culture, Promotion and Tourism Department Hüdaverdi Otaklı, Poets Society members, invited guests, and poetry lovers attended the program held at the Çatalçeşme Theatre Hall. In the speech made at the event, the City Council Poets Society President, Arzu Subakan Kabukçu said: ''We are commemorating with respect the 79th anniversary of Mehmet Akif Ersoy passing away. He was a pioneer of our national literature, who left us the value of his poems. ''


Safahat should be explained to young people


Explaining that our National Poet, Ersoy had always experienced difficulties during the period of his life, the Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Mustafa Gökoğlan said: ''That period was the most difficult period of the Ottoman Empire. Mehmet Akif Ersoy was not just a poet, but also a man of religion and politics. At that times, he used to be everywhere he was needed. ''Stating that Mehmet Akif Ersoy's poem 'Safahat' should be explained to young people, Gökoğlan said: ''If we tell our young people about Mehmet Akif and Safahat, it will be the best for the future of our country. We have to preserve our values and our national poets such as Mehmet Akif gibi and Necip Fazıl. ''In the end of the night, Gökoğlan gave flowers to members of the Poets Society who added color to the program with their poems.
