''Disability is not an obstacle to success''

Denizli Metropolitan Municipality City Council Disabled Assembly has organised an interview on the "Disability is not an obstacle to success" topic for the 7th and 8th-grade students studying at four different schools, in the context of the Disability Awareness Week.

Denizli Metropolitan Municipality City Council Disabled Assembly continues to organise different events in the context of May 10-16 the Disability Awareness Week. In this context, Disabled Assembly organised an interview on "Disability is not an obstacle to success" at the Çatalçeşme Theatre Hall. Denizli Metropolitan Municipality City Council Secretary General, Baran Akın, Disabled Assembly President, Sevil Güngör, invited guests, and 250 students and teachers from four different schools attended the interview. Stating that this interview aims to draw attention to the problems faced by people with disabilities, Disabled Assembly President Sevil Güngör said: ''What is a disability? We wanted to speak about the difficulties and problems lived by the people with disabilities every day and to share ideas on this topic.


"Empathize with people with disabilities''

 

Calling for people to ''Be the light for people with disabilities'', the Disabled Assembly Executive Board Member Meryem Çakırtürk said: ''Firstly we want people living in the community and you to empathise with people with disabilities to understand them. You must be light for people with disabilities. You have to know the difficulties experienced by the people with disabilities and to be sensitive on this topic.'' The Executive Board Member Aysun Tonel also said: ''First of all, we want people to show love for people with disabilities, not compassion. ''
 

"Physical disability is not an obstacle to success''


National Archer Abdullah Yorulmaz, who became disabled at the age of 24 after a car accident, emphasised the importance of perseverance and diligence. Telling that he had to live as bedridden for three years, Yorulmaz said: ''I lived very difficult moments. But due to my perseverance and diligence, I succeeded to not being mobilised to bed anymore. For 3 years I have been playing sports as a national archer with a wheelchair. ''


Cable car and horse farm visit


On the other hand, the City Council Disabled Assembly has organised a trip to the Horse farm and to the Denizli Cable Car and Bağbaşı Plateau for approximately 50 students of İbrahim Cengiz Special Education and Business Center, Painter İbrahim Çallı Primary School, 19 Mayıs Primary School, and Central Secondary School.
