Denizli Metropolitan Municipality, which took the authority from the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization for the control of air pollution caused by heating, started inspections at coal sales points to minimize air pollution in winter. In this context, the air pollution inspection teams of Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Environmental Protection and Control Department take samples from randomly selected bags of coal at the coal sales points and send it to the laboratory for analysis. In the inspections, the teams also check whether the enterprises selling coal have qualification certificates.

Attention to calorific values of coal

Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Environmental Protection and Control Department Head Ramazan Değirmenci said that as the Metropolitan Municipality, they continue the necessary controls to minimize air pollution in Denizli. Reminding the Denizli Provincial-Local Environment Board decisions taken in 2016, Değirmenci said: ''Coal is completely prohibited in buildings with central heating systems in regions with natural gas infrastructure. In regions without natural gas infrastructure, with a central heating system, it is obligatory to install filters in the chimneys according to TSE standards. Also, the lower calorific value of the domestic coal used is 5400 kcal/kg and the sulfur ratio is 1.2 per cent, while the lower calorific value is 7200 kcal/kg and the sulfur ratio is 0.9 per cent in imported coal. ''

Inspections will continue without interruption

Noting that they will continue to control coal sales points and all households, Değirmenci said ''These samples we take are analyzed in Denizli Environmental Quality (DENÇEV) Laboratory of our Denizli Metropolitan Municipality. We prohibit the sale of coal, whose analysis is negative, in our city. Our request from our citizens is not to buy coal sold without authorization. Our inspections will continue uninterruptedly to keep air pollution to a minimum. ''
