Denizli Metropolitan Municipality City Council Women Assembly laid a wreath at the Ataturk Monument in front of Denizli Governorship at the 81st Anniversary of Turkish Woman's Right to Vote and to be Elected, the "Women's Rights Day" which was declared December 5, 1934. Speaking in the program started with a moment of silence and the National Anthem, Denizli Metropolitan Municipality City Council Women Assembly President Bilsen Özen said that on December 5, 1934, Turkish women has received the legal right to vote and to be elected. Özen, ''Today we have celebrated the 81st anniversary with 81 deputies. But this is not a success for us. In the previous elections, in June 1998 we participated with 78 women, this year with 81. I don't want to blame anyone for the lack in this election. I think is our fault. How many of us give support when a friend of us, women sais 'I will be deputy'? ''she said.

51 percent of the population is women

Telling that a woman said that in the parliamentary elections men gave her more support than women, Özen said: ''We live in a country where 51 percent of the population is women. In my country, a woman can achieve everything she wants. Hand in hand we can cross the mountains, a fact shown in the War of Independence. Our Ata gave us these rights hoping that we will use them in the best way. ''Striking that it should be more women in Parliament, Özen celebrated all women for the Women's Rights Day.
