Heroes of the National Struggle are not forgotten in Tavas
Denizli Metropolitan Municipality organized an event called ''Tavas and its Region National Struggle Program'' in memory of the heroes of the National Struggle. The program, carried out by the Coronavirus measures and the social distance rule explained what happened in the period of National Struggle in Tavas and its region.
Within the scope of the 100th Anniversary of the National Struggle, Denizli Metropolitan Municipality organized the program ''Tavas and its Region National Struggle Program'' in cooperation with Tavas Municipality and the Turkish Quarries Denizli Branch. The program, carried out by the Coronavirus measures and the social distance rules, took place at the Tavas Bağlar Mesirelik Amphitheater. Tavas District Governor Recep Öztürk, Tavas Mayor Hüseyin İnamlık, Head of Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Culture and Social Affairs Department Hüdaverdi Otaklı, Provincial Culture and Tourism Manager Turhan Veli Akyol, Turkish Quarries Denizli Branch President Prof. Dr Turgut Tok, guests and many citizens attended the program. The program, which started with the heroic anthems and folk songs concert performed by the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Mehteran Team, continued with the exhibition of weapons and equipment used during the National Struggle. After the memorial program held in Çal, Buldan, Acıpayam, Çivril and Sarayköy Districts, in the Tavas program, where the President of Turkish Quarries Denizli Branch Prof. Dr Turgut Tok made the opening speech, he remembered the memories of the heroes of the National Struggle with respect. Turkish Quarries Denizli Branch President and Pamukkale University Prof. Dr Turgut Tok said, ''Today, the crusades are not over. This time they come with economy, science, art, culture and sports, not with guns and rifles. We must stop discussing the history and learn from history. Let's know the history we live in, learn and draw lessons and rebuild our tomorrow. ''
The importance of Tavas in the National Struggle
In the memorial program moderated by Süleyman İnan, Prof. Dr at Pamukkale University, he talked about what happened during the National Struggle in Tavas and its region. Prof. İnan said, ''We learned from our elders who lived in the period of poverty, compassion, good fortune, and sharing. There are memories that everyone living in Tavas learned from the elders of that period separately. ''On the other hand, Pamukkale University lecturer Kenan Çölgeçen pointed out that Tavas has been a key military and logistic centre on very important fronts since the past. Çölgeçen said, ''We have a very important history. Unfortunately, we do not write history. If we do not, others will write our history. Our children learn our history from others. Unfortunately, there are no works related to the history of Tavas. ''
Tavas was the district that sent the most troops to the front
Hüdaverdi Otaklı, Head of the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Culture and Social Affairs Department, explained what happened in Denizli and Tavas District during the National Struggle. Describing the organizational work of Mufti Ahmet Hulusi Efendi, one of the important names of the National Struggle in terms of both Denizli and Turkish history, Otaklı said, ''A telegraph was sent to all parts of Anatolia, on the night of May 15, 1919, at 02:00. In the first hours of the morning, a meeting took place in Denizli under the leadership of Mufti Ahmet Hulusi Efendi. This was a prepared, very powerful meeting. On May 16, Cennetzade Tahir Efendi, the district governor of the period and the mayor made very hot speeches and held a rally in Tavas. Tavas was the district that sent the most troops to the front. 449 volunteers gathered. Very serious cash aids were sent to the front. ''
Metropolitan continues to protect the history of Denizli
Stating that one work has been written about Tavas until 1989, Hüdaverdi Otaklı, Head of the Department of Culture and Social Affairs said, ''As Denizli Metropolitan Municipality, we have published 175 works about Denizli and its region since 2008. Currently, there are 27 other works prepared for publication. We continue to protect the historical and cultural values of our Denizli. ''
Mayor of Tavas Municipality İnamlık said, ''We feel the same spirit''
In his speech, Mayor of Tavas Hüseyin İnamlık said, ''Denizli is one of the provinces that fought with all its people during the national struggle years. He wrote the saga of salvation by opposing captivity for his national independence and national dignity. The first support came from Tavas, Denizli, from Mufti Ahmet Hulusi. We feel the torch of resistance that our ancestors had burned with the same spirit. I would like to thank our Metropolitan Mayor Osman Zolan and all the labourers for their support in organizing this beautiful program. ''Following the program, the guests visited the graves of the heroes of the National Struggle, Mufti Cennetzade Tahir Efendi, in the Kızılcabölük Cemetery, and Köpekçi Nuri Efe in the Tavas Cemetery, and prayed.
