Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Osman Zolan examined the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Medical Waste Sterilization Facility, which was modernized and increased its capacity to 12,000 kilograms per day. Deputy Secretary General Seval Gebeş, Head of Environmental Protection and Control Department Ramazan Değirmenci and those accompanying him accompanied Mayor Zolan's visit. The facility, which was modernized a while ago and increased its capacity to 12,000 kilograms per day, has been serving since 2011. The medical wastes collected from 700 different health facilities in Denizli are disposed of without harming the environment and human health. In the facility, 7,000 kg of medical waste per day is sterilized at 146 degrees Celsius with high-pressure steam and purified from all germs that carry diseases and viruses and becomes domestic garbage. The waste is turned into domestic garbage and disposed of in the sanitary landfill at the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Kumkısık Solid Waste Disposal Facility.

Mayor Zolan said that the Medical Waste Sterilization Facility, located within the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Kumkısık Additive Waste Disposal Facility, where Denizli's wastes are collected and disposed of, meets a very important need. Noting that domestic wastes and leachate are disposed of in the facility without harming nature and the environment, Mayor Zolan said they also generate electrical energy from wastes. Mayor Zolan said, ''This is a large integrated facility. There is also medical waste collected from many health institutions in our city, in addition to domestic waste. We do not accept medical waste, which can harbor many diseases, viruses and harmful organisms, as normal garbage. We need to dispose of these wastes separately. ''

Explaining that they put this facility into service 11 years ago, breaking new ground in the Aegean, Mayor Zolan stated that they modernized the facility and increased its daily capacity to 12,000 kilograms. Mayor Zolan said, ''The medical wastes collected here are disposed of at 146 degrees Celsius with a pressure of 3.5 bar. It is rendered completely harmless in terms of disease and sent to the sanitary landfill by giving it the quality of domestic waste.
