Camel wrestling festival from Metropolitan Municipality

Denizli Metropolitan Municipality is organizing the third edition of camel wrestling, an important tradition of Yörük culture. 120 wrestlers and 21 camels will fiercely compete at the Traditional Turkish Sports Games Complex on Sunday, January 21. Mayor Osman Zolan has invited all fellow citizens to the free event.

The Denizli Metropolitan Municipality, which attaches great importance to social and cultural projects alongside its physical investments in Denizli, is organizing the third edition of camel wrestling, an important tradition of Yörük culture. To preserve Yörük culture and pass it on to future generations, the excitement of camel wrestling will take place at the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Traditional Turkish Sports Games Complex (Albayrak Square) on Sunday, January 21, 2024. A fierce competition will unfold among 120 wrestlers and camels coming from various neighbouring provinces, including Aydın and Muğla. Participation in these traditional Turkish sports, celebrated as one of the major entertainments among the people of Denizli and the Aegean Region, particularly the Yörüks, is free of charge, ensuring the preservation of historical and cultural elements. The camel wrestling festivities will begin with a parade on Saturday, January 20, at 14.00, from Bayramyeri Square to 15 Temmuz Delikliçınar Şehitler Square. The parade, which will feature colourful images, is expected to attract great attention this year.

Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Osman Zolan invited all citizens to the third edition of camel wrestling, scheduled to take place at the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Traditional Turkish Sports Games Complex on Sunday, January 21, 2024. Mayor Zolan stated that they are delighted to organize this special event free of charge and highlighted that it is the only privately organized camel wrestling event in Turkey that can be followed in a stadium-like setting. Emphasizing the importance of camel wrestling as a significant tradition of Yörük culture and a part of their cultural richness, Mayor Zolan said, ''We continue to embrace our values by preserving this important tradition of Yörük culture. We have completed all preparations for this beautiful event, which will be free for all attendees. We invite wrestling enthusiasts from our city and neighbouring provinces to Denizli on Sunday. ''
