The 5th International Cartoon Competition Exhibition and Award Ceremony, organized by Denizli Metropolitan Municipality, was held with the theme "Water and Environment," featuring 968 works from 45 countries. The exhibition, showcasing the award-winning cartoons, will be open until May 8.

They drew attention on water and the environment through cartoons
The 5th International Cartoon Competition Exhibition and Award Ceremony organized by Denizli Metropolitan Municipality, was held this year. The event took place at the Turan Bahadır Exhibition Hall with the participation of Denizli Metropolitan Mayor Bülent Nuri Çavuşoğlu, Head of Culture and Social Affairs Department Mehmet Selçuk, cartoonists, guests, and numerous art enthusiasts. Mayor Bülent Nuri Çavuşoğlu emphasised that the competition, held under the theme "Water and Environment," aimed to raise awareness about climate change, the depletion of water resources, and environmental issues. He underlined that Denizli Metropolitan Municipality, particularly through DESKİ, continues its awareness efforts on these issues across all departments.
"We must increase tolerance and awareness through art"
Mayor Çavuşoğlu stated, ''We need to understand one another and increase our tolerance through art. Especially those of us in politics must embrace tolerance and be open to critical thinking. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this wonderful event, both those who served as jury members and those who supported us with their work. I hope this beautiful exhibition will be beneficial and meaningful for all. ''
A surprise cartoon portrait gift to Mayor Çavuşoğlu
Following the speeches, Mayor Çavuşoğlu presented the awards to the winners. The special award dedicated to the late master cartoonist Latif Demirci was given to Halit Kurtulmuş Aytoslu. In return, Aytoslu presented Mayor Çavuşoğlu with a specially prepared cartoon portrait as a gift. The results of the competition, announced on April 16, 2025, are as follows: In the over-18 category, Luc Vernimmen (Belgium) won first place, while Musa Gümüş came second and Osman Çolakoğlu third. Honourable mentions were awarded to Fakhredin Dostmohamad (Iran), Cemalettin Güzeloğlu, and Engin Selçuk. In the under-18 category, M. Boran Şavluk and Zeynep Rüya Çetin were awarded for their outstanding works.
