Mayor Çavuşoğlu emphasizes the importance of press freedom
Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Bülent Nuri Çavuşoğlu, in a message for July 24 Journalists and Press Day, underscored that press freedom is a key pillar of democracy and societal progress. He stated, "An uncensored, independent, and ethically grounded media is indispensable for a strong Türkiye."

Marking the 117th anniversary of the end of press censorship, Mayor Çavuşoğlu acknowledged recent challenges faced by journalists, including pressure and economic hardship. He said, "All who report the truth and defend public information rights are democracy’s defenders."
In his message, Mayor Çavuşoğlu shared the following thoughts: "Every piece of news penned by a journalist serves the public’s right to access information. However, this service is only meaningful when carried out freely. Our common goal must be a country where criticism is not silenced, truths are not obscured, and journalists are not prosecuted."
On this occasion, I congratulate all media workers on Journalists and Press Day, July 24, and thank the journalists who ensure the public has access to accurate information. I remember with respect those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
