The 38th International Amateur Theatre Festival begins

Denizli Metropolitan Municipality is preparing to host one of the most established artistic traditions in Türkiye and the world. The International Amateur Theatre Festival, which will open its curtains for the 38th time this year, will transform the city into a giant stage between May 9 and 17, 2026. Bringing together the excitement of the amateur spirit with a professional vision, the festival will carry art to the streets for nine days.

28 Theatre Groups Gather in Denizli

Within the scope of the festival to be hosted by Denizli Metropolitan Municipality, international groups from four different countries, along with theatre ensembles from various cities across Türkiye, will be welcomed. This year’s organisation will feature an impressive international participation. A total of 28 theatre groups will meet art lovers in Denizli, with nearly 300 theatre artists showcasing their performances. Throughout the city, 30 different performances and public theatre workshops will be organised.

“Hamlet” to Take the Final Stage

The 38th International Amateur Theatre Festival will begin on Saturday, May 9 at 4:00 PM with a parade march from the Denizli Governorship building to Delikliçınar Square. Following the parade, the Karabağlar Municipality City Theatre Contemporary Circus Arts Workshop will bring art lovers together. The festival’s opening performance will take place the same day at 8:00 PM at the DBB Congress and Culture Centre Fatma Yıldız Hall, with the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality City Theatres’ acclaimed production “Sığıntılar.” After nine days filled with art, the grand finale will feature the world classic Hamlet, performed with an original interpretation by Maltepe Municipality Theatre.

Art Expands to Districts: Theatre Enthusiasm in Tavas, Acıpayam and Sarayköy

This year, the festival will not be limited to the city centre, but will spread art across Denizli. While the Merkezefendi Cultural Center Stage will be one of the main venues, the excitement of theatre will also be brought to citizens in Tavas, Acıpayam, and Sarayköy through five special performances. In addition to stages, plays will also be performed in squares and streets, reaching every aspect of daily life.
