Denizli stands out at the “Act Now” Mayors' Conference

Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Bülent Nuri Çavuşoğlu attended the international “Act Now” Mayors' Conference held in Cascais, Portugal. Representing Denizli alongside a five-member delegation, Mayor Çavuşoğlu attracted significant international attention with the city’s candidacy for the European Capital of Democracy and its sustainability-focused projects.

Sustainability summit with the Mayor of Cascais

On the opening day of the “Act Now” Mayors' Conference, Mayor Bülent Nuri Çavuşoğlu carried out an intensive schedule of diplomatic meetings and came together with Carlos Carreiras, Mayor of the host city, Cascais. During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on combating the global climate crisis and sustainable urban planning. While Mayor Çavuşoğlu presented Denizli’s environmentally focused projects, the foundations for future cooperation between the two cities were also established. At the conclusion of the meeting, Mayor Çavuşoğlu presented his counterpart Carreiras with the world-renowned handcrafted Buldan Shawl, introducing one of Denizli’s most distinguished cultural values.

Praise from Europe for Denizli’s democratic vision

Another important meeting for Mayor Çavuşoğlu was the official discussion held with Mathieu Mori, Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. During the meeting, Türkiye’s democratic development process in local governance was discussed, while Secretary General Mori expressed his appreciation for the country’s efforts in this field. Referring specifically to Denizli’s candidacy process for the “European Capital of Democracy,” Mori stated that he supports Denizli’s vision and shared his goodwill wishes for Denizli to become the next European Capital of Democracy.

Strengthened cooperation among Turkish delegations

A specialized five-member delegation from Denizli Metropolitan Municipality accompanied the organization. The delegation included Head of the Real Estate and Expropriation Department Hasan Tuğrul Özkan, Head of the Social Services Department Veysel Danacıoğlu, Burcu Bilik from the Women and Family Services Department, and Berna Yılmaz and Pelin Aslı Özen from the Survey and Projects Department. During the event, meetings were also held with other Turkish local government representatives attending the conference, where experiences were exchanged, and consultations were carried out on joint projects and strengthening Türkiye’s representation on international platforms. Commenting on the international engagements, Mayor Çavuşoğlu stated: “We continue to represent Denizli on the global stage while sharing both our city’s cultural heritage and its modern vision. From the climate crisis to democracy, we are building strong partnerships by presenting the ‘Denizli model’ in every field.”
